A new spatial organization of the shoreline
Award: Top 3 selected
With this competition Mariupol has shown that it has made a great leap in society growth and will for changes. The embankment refurbishment is “just” a physical representation of the social progress titanically carried by the city by now.
As corner stones of the Central Shore development program, we consider the identity illumination and the urban promenade valorization. We are speaking about a storefront of Ukraine – peaceful and democratic.
The spatial organization of the shoreline, its linear nature will be reinforced with a popular for Ukrainian embankments concept of the “health route” with the jogging-cycling infrastructure. This line is a spine of physical development, a thread for the readable rhythm of the bright beads.
On the second layer of the physical design, we group up reference points of every walkway segment – so called stations, which provide both activities and identities in a physically concentrated cluster-like way. The urban-style water contact of the brownfield finds its climax in an artificial salt-water pool next to the yacht club, the rail yard becomes a place of old wagons to receive a new life, and the central pier of the sand beach presents a new breeze of changes.
