Concept for the new area “valpolcevera” Genova
“Il Parco dei 100 Ponti”, a place where, between the two shores, a series of connection elements are developed that bring together the two sides in a literal way. The park will be “inhabited” by a series of new bridges of different dimensions and functions. The park carries out the architectural and landscape theme of the bridge in countless versions. Bridges are an unequivocal symbolic architecture. If other types of buildings can be interpreted differently, a bridge is always a way to “go the other way”, it always contains the discovery of the other, a possibility of novelty and openness. The formal gesture of building a bridge carries with it the ideal sign of widening the habitable horizon, mixing cultures, adapting oneself to change and to the future. Even when it is a simple technical element, a bridge is full of aesthetic force, of simple and peaceful symbolism.
The park will grow over time, bridges will be the devices that will activate the individual phases and indicate their implementation. If a bridge appears, it is the park that grows: Centoponti is an organic set of architectures that will crosswise the valley and river system. It will be accomplished by successive steps, each time bringing with it the arrangement or opening of a system of open spaces connected to the new park.
