Architectural project for the Bisagno Stream
The architectural project of the Green Logistic Valley reinterprets the former Facchini industrial area in Rivarolo as a new productive urban district, capable of combining advanced logistics, innovation, sustainable production, and public space. The intervention is based on the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and the regeneration of disused industrial heritage, transforming a formerly marginal area into a new urban centrality for the Val Polcevera.
The architectural framework preserves and enhances the large volumes of the former workshops and foundries, retaining their material and structural character while introducing new contemporary elements in a clear yet measured manner. The historic buildings are repurposed to accommodate aeroponic greenhouses, production and processing spaces, start-up hubs, conference halls, the foundation’s headquarters, and a covered market, creating a unified and flexible architectural system capable of adapting to changing uses over time.
A defining element of the project is the new central boulevard, conceived as an urban spine and a strong public-space identity. This linear axis runs through the entire site, connecting the different functions and transforming logistical and productive movement into an accessible and lived urban experience. The boulevard is not merely a circulation route but a sequence of meeting spaces, open views, plazas, and spatial episodes that reconnect the regenerated site with the surrounding neighbourhood and the wider valley landscape.
Architecture directly integrates production, research, and social interaction. The aeroponic greenhouses and cultivation areas become visible and traversable architectural elements, while the covered market and internal public spaces foster a direct relationship between production and consumption. The hub buildings and conference halls are conceived as open and flexible volumes, where natural light, generous heights, and transparency contribute to high-quality working and gathering environments.
Overall, the project constructs a cohesive architectural landscape in which infrastructure, architecture, and open space are in continuous dialogue. New volumes and contemporary insertions stand alongside the historic structures without mimicry, reinforcing their character and establishing new recognizable landmarks within the urban fabric. The Green Logistic Valley thus emerges as a model of architectural and urban regeneration, where industrial heritage becomes the foundation for a new vision of sustainable, inclusive, and city-integrated production.
